Fill the Wells Blood Drive

“We wouldn’t have gotten those last few days with him had it not been for the generosity of those who donate blood.”
Jordan Wells was a healthy, active 23 year old who loved Louisville, people and animals. A graduate of South Oldham County High School where he wrestled, Jordan’s love of walking and running would propel him to run two mini marathons. His physical fitness would ultimately help him in a fight for his life.
On March 30, 2024, the day before Easter, Jordan was out walking on Eastern Parkway near Dairy Kastle around 5 p.m. when he was shot as a result of a random attack. “He was just at the wrong place at the wrong time,” said his mother Kristie Hillard.
He was taken to UofL Health – UofL Hospital and underwent several surgeries before his family was contacted around 10 p.m. that evening. “He actually died in the ER. They had to cut him open and massage his heart. He shouldn’t have survived . . . but there were so many miracles along the way.”
Jordan received more than 119 units of blood products. “One sheet of paper is equal to one unit of blood and he had a binder more than an inch thick. He was given so much blood. And he fought so hard.”
Jordan ultimately passed away on April 20, 2024, three weeks after the shooting.
“That last week he was awake and he could communicate with us. He told us that he loved us and we told him that we loved him.”
We are so grateful. We want to honor him by doing all we can to encourage everyone to give blood.
