Upgraded infant warmers are on the way to UofL Health – UofL Hospital, supported by a $134,000 grant from Kosair Charities.
Newborn babies are less able to regulate their body temperature, and babies experiencing low temperature may need to warm quickly. Placing the baby in an open bed, with radiant warmers, allows quick access for medical care while simultaneously bringing up the baby’s temperature. While UofL Hospital already had radiant warmers in use, this grant allows an upgrade to the most state of the art models.
“To have the support of Kosair Charities for this project delivers benefits that can truly last a lifetime,” said Reetta Stikes, Center for Women & Infants director at UofL Hospital. “There is so much that happens in those first minutes of a newborn’s life, the quicker we help the get the temperature levels right the quicker we can get the baby back to mom.”

We are grateful to fund the purchase of six GE Panda Infant Warming systems for the Labor and Delivery Unit,” said Keith Inman, Kosair Charities President. “We hope these systems will provide comfort for the smallest of our Kosair Kids and their families as well as equip UofL Hospital with some of the very latest technology.”
UofL Hospital’s Center for Women & Infants (CWI) is designated a Baby-Friendly birthing facility by Baby-Friendly USA. The CWI also includes a 24-bed level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
