The Frazier Rehab Institute Stroke Injury Program focuses on assisting patients in increasing their independence and providing training for caregivers to assist with a successful daily routine upon returning home.

Upon admission, each rehab team member completes an evaluation and works with the patient, family and other team members to develop an individualized and integrated treatment plan. The patient and family are considered essential team members in this planning process. Our goal is to get the patient home and the family often holds the key to making this happen. Our team will use information about the family’s lifestyle and personal goals to help craft a plan for promoting the smoothest recovery and return to home.

The Frazier inpatient rehab program provides at least three hours of therapy, a minimum of five days a week. Inpatient therapy begins as early as 7:30 a.m. and can continue until approximately 4:30 p.m. Each patient’s schedule is adjusted as needed to best suit his/her progress and situation.

A patient’s therapy program may include:

  • Physical Therapy
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Speech Therapy
  • Recreational Therapy
  • Pulmonary Therapy
  • Psychological Treatment

Some therapy may take place in the patient’s room, such as basic self-care activities involving grooming, dressing and hygiene. Other activities are better suited to spaces where the specialized therapy equipment is located. Most therapy sessions are provided one-on-one with patients. However, we also offer co-treatment (two therapy disciplines teaming up to treat the patient together) and group therapy when appropriate.

In 2022, Frazier Rehab’s Stroke Program provided inpatient services to 487 patients, representing approximately 24% of all admissions to Frazier Rehab Institute. The age breakdown of this population is:

  • 62 adults ages 18-44
  • 177 adults ages 45-64
  • 237 adults ages 65 and over

The average length of stay for patients with a stroke diagnosis is approximately 2 weeks (15 days).
