LOUISVILLE, Ky. – UofL Health is well-represented in the 21st annual Best Places to Work in Kentucky program, recognizing outstanding workplace environments. Three facilities earned a place on this year’s list: UofL Health – Shelbyville Hospital, UofL Health – Medical Center East and UofL Health – Medical Center Southwest.
The 2025 Best Places to Work in Kentucky list was announced by The Kentucky Chamber of Commerce and The Kentucky Society for Human Resource Management. The selection process is based on an assessment of the company’s employee policies and procedures, and the results of an internal employee survey.
“I want to applaud the teams at Shelbyville Hospital, Medical Center East and Medical Center Southwest for their work in building a best place to work culture,” said Tom Miller, UofL Health CEO. “Outstanding teams deliver outstanding care for their patients, and this recognition verifies these UofL Health facilities are among the best places to work in health care.”
Shelbyville Hospital was recognized in the medium company category, with 150-499 employees, and was one of only 26 companies selected as winners in this category. This is Shelbyville Hospital’s sixth year to receive the designation. Last year, Shelbyville Hospital was inducted into the Best Places to Work Hall of Fame—a recognition that only 48 other organizations have achieved.
“Our entire team gets all of the credit for creating a culture that has led to our sixth Best Places to Work in Kentucky award,” said Aaron Garofola, Shelbyville Hospital CEO. “Their dedication to serving our community and working every day to offer exceptional care is what truly makes our local hospital a great place to work. I am especially proud that we are one of only 48 companies and one of only two hospitals in the Best Places to Work Hall of Fame. I want to thank our team for their work to making Shelbyville Hospital one of the best places to work—and a great place for our community to receive care.”
Medical Center East was also recognized in the medium category, marking its third year in a row on the list. Medical Center Southwest earned its spot in the small-sized employer category.
“Being named among Kentucky’s Best Places to Work is such an honor and is a testament to the hard-working team members at Medical Center East and Medical Center Southwest” said Angelica Thompson, BSN, RN, chief operating officer and chief nursing officer for ambulatory services, UofL Health. “It recognizes the commitment and shows the focus of value and respect that each employee embodies while taking care of the members of our community. The people here make it the best place to work, and it is the ultimate compliment that we work in an environment where employees are motivated to show up each day ready to serve and bring a powerful impact to our organization.”
The Best Places to Work in Kentucky competition is a multi-year initiative designed to motivate companies in the commonwealth to focus, measure and move their workplace environments toward excellence. Studies show a strong correlation between success and creating a good place to work.
The winner rankings will be announced at an awards dinner on Thursday, May 22, 2025.
