LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Three UofL Health hospitals have joined UofL Health – Heart Hospital in receiving accreditations from the American College of Cardiology (ACC). In 2023, the Heart Hospital received a three-year accreditation as Cardiac Cath Lab Accreditation with PCI, Chest Pain Center Accreditation and Resuscitation Center Accreditation. The Heart Hospital also has earned the ACC’s Platinum Award for metrics under the accreditation.

Following recent surveys in December 2024, the ACC also recognized UofL Health – Mary & Elizabeth Hospital, UofL Health – Shelbyville Hospital and UofL Health – South Hospital with accreditation in the treatment of cardiac patients.

Mary & Elizabeth Hospital and South Hospital were recognized for their demonstrated expertise and commitment in treating patients who come to a cardiac cath lab for care, including diagnostic catheterizations and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) procedures. Both were awarded Cardiac Cath Lab Accreditation with PCI and Chest Pain Center Accreditation based on rigorous on-site evaluation of the staff’s ability to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients who come to the emergency department and cardiac cath lab.

Shelbyville Hospital received Chest Pain Center Accreditation based on its staff’s ability to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients who may be experiencing a heart attack.

“I’m incredibly proud that so many of our UofL Health hospitals have demonstrated the commitment to providing our region with excellent heart care,” said Debra Riley, DNP, system vice president of cardiovascular services at UofL Health. “These accreditations serve to assure patients that they are receiving the absolute highest level of heart care when they choose the UofL Health system for their care.”
