Dear Valued Patient,
At UofL Health, our mission is simple: to provide compassionate, high-quality care to every person who walks through our doors — regardless of income, insurance status, or zip code. We are proud to serve as one of Kentucky’s largest health systems and as an academic medical center training the next generation of physicians to care for our communities.
But today, we are reaching out to share a serious concern that could affect access to care for thousands of Kentuckians.
Congress recently passed, and the president signed, legislation that includes significant cuts to Medicaid — the program that provides health coverage to more than 1.5 million Kentuckians, including many of our patients. Some of these reductions will have an immediate impact, with the most severe starting in 2028. If these cuts move forward, the impact will be immediate and far-reaching. Health systems across the state, including UofL Health, would be forced to reduce services, close care locations, and lay off dedicated health care workers. The result? Fewer places to receive care, longer wait times, and poorer health outcomes — especially in rural and underserved communities.
These cuts also will reduce funding for the training of future doctors, worsening the already growing shortage of health care providers across Kentucky and the nation. That means fewer physicians available in the years to come — and fewer opportunities to bring care closer to home.
At UofL Health, we’re working hard to raise awareness among policymakers and do everything we can to protect your access to care. We will keep advocating for your health and your future. But we want you to be informed about what’s at stake — not only for your health, but for the health of your family, neighbors, and communities.
We remain committed to providing you the care you need, when and where you need it. Thank you for placing your trust in UofL Health. We are honored to be your health care partner and will continue to advocate fiercely on your behalf.
Sincerely,
Gerry Bradley
