LOUISVILLE, Ky. – UofL Health – Jewish Hospital and the UofL Health – Brain & Spine Institute proudly announce the opening of UofL Health’s first neuro-hybrid operating room (OR), marking a significant milestone in advancing neurosurgical, cerebrovascular and stroke care.
This cutting-edge OR is furnished with specialized equipment, such as crucial imaging services for cerebrovascular teams, to enhance the surgical team’s ability to pivot seamlessly during procedures, allowing the team to adapt to emerging needs without interrupting patient care.
“The integration of a hybrid OR represents a transformative advancement for our neurosurgical and neurological services,” said Joshua Beardsley, system vice president of UofL Health Neurosciences and Spine. “This state-of-the-art facility enables our Brain & Spine Institute providers to administer treatments with greater speed, efficiency and safety, thereby significantly enhancing patient outcomes.”
The hybrid OR’s multi-functional design facilitates a range of procedures, including craniotomies, endovascular interventions and other advanced surgical techniques. By removing the need to surgically close and reopen patients for subsequent interventions, the hybrid OR contributes to reduced recovery times, minimized risk of complications and streamlined perioperative care.
“Jewish Hospital is a leader in advanced surgical care,” said John Walsh, CEO of Jewish Hospital. “We are proud to have a dedicated space for our neurosurgeons and neurologists to have the specialized tools they need to succeed and improve the patient’s experience.”
