UofL Health – South Hospital Opens in Bullitt County

UofL Hospital’s West Tower Topped Off with Ceremonial Beam Placement
A 30-foot steel beam adorned with the signatures of physicians, nurses, team members and community leaders was placed in the structural framework of the new UofL Hospital West Tower in August. The expansion project will increase the hospital’s operating capacity and facilitate a phased modernization to include more private beds.

Mary & Elizabeth Hospital Celebrates 150 Years of Patient Care
Mary & Elizabeth Hospital celebrated 150 years of serving a medically underserved South Louisville community. Founded by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth in 1874, what started as a 75-bed hospital has grown to a 298-bed facility offering a full range of services. A century and a half later, we're continuing to serve generations of patients.

UofL School of Medicine names Dr. Jeffrey Bumpous executive VP of health affairs and dean
The University of Louisville named Dr. Jeffrey Bumpous—an otolaryngologist – head and neck surgeon at UofL Health—as the new executive vice president of health affairs and dean of the University of Louisville School of Medicine.

UofL Health to serve as the official medical services provider of the 106th PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club
UofL Health served as the Official Medical Services Provider of the 2024 PGA Championship held at Valhalla Golf Club in May.
UofL Health provided on-site medical services for spectators, players, caddies, volunteers, vendors and staff. Nearly 150 medical providers and health care volunteers were on site throughout Championship week at Valhalla.

LouCity FC, Racing Louisville FC Announce Partnership with UofL Health
UofL Health is now the official sports medicine partner for Louisville City FC, Racing Louisville FC and the teams’ youth academies in a multi-year agreement with the city’s professional soccer clubs.
The landmark partnership is the largest health care deal in club history, extending UofL Health’s range of world-class resources to LouCity and Racing starting with the 2024 seasons.

Kentucky Invests to Improve Rural Cancer Care
UofL Health announced plans to expand the reach of its Brown Cancer Center, building a new $25-million regional cancer center and Center for Rural Cancer Education and Research, with a specific emphasis on increasing access to comprehensive cancer care in south, central and western Kentucky. The cancer center will be located along the growing I-65 corridor on the campus of UofL Health – South Hospital, in Bullitt County. The project is made possible with recent funding support from the Kentucky General Assembly.

Facility dog Travis retires from outpatient rehabilitation work
Facility dog Travis, a blonde Labrador who works with patients in outpatient rehabilitation, retired after 5-and-half years of service. He acted as an exercise partner to those involved in physical therapy while also providing comfort and care to those who need it most.
