UofL Health – UofL Hospital Ranked “High Performing” for Maternity Care

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – UofL Health – UofL Hospital has been ranked “high performing” by U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals for Maternity Care (uncomplicated pregnancy), which was released Dec. 10. UofL Hospital is one of three hospitals in Kentucky that made the list.

U.S. News evaluated 817 hospitals providing labor and delivery services, and 414 hospitals made the final list demonstrating “high performing” outcomes. Hospitals submitted detailed data and quality measures were analyzed including C-section rates, rates of severe unexpected newborn complications, exclusive breast milk feeding rates, birthing-friendly practices and the reporting of racial and ethnic disparities.

“The Center for Women & Infants at UofL Hospital is honored to be included among the best hospitals for maternity care,” Reetta Stikes, director of the Center for Women & Infants, said. “We know that we provide high quality care. We have a low C-section rate and we continually work to improve our quality measures by focusing on breastfeeding and equitably serving a diverse population of patients. I am so proud of our team and happy to see UofL Hospital recognized.”

Earlier this year, UofL Hospital was also re-designated as a Baby-Friendly facility by Baby-Friendly USA. The Center for Women & Infants at UofL Hospital includes labor and delivery, mother/baby care and a level III neonatal intensive care unit.
