PACU RN Training Program
The PACU RN Training Program at UofL Health – UofL Hospital is an 8-month paid educational program for registered nurses to learn the specialty skill of post-operative nursing in a fast-paced pre- and post-anesthesia care unit environment.
As part of the new West Tower at UofL Hospital, opening in 2025, six new operating rooms will be supported by the PACU, bringing the total to 23.
The PACU RN Training Program is open to both new graduates and experienced RNs.
*New cohort begins June 9, 2025.* The deadline to apply is May 16, 2025.
The full-time training program includes:
- Immersive observation experiences
- Competency-based classes
- Specialized peri-anesthesia eLearning and simulation
Participants will build and gain experience with preceptor-guided orientation experience throughout levels of care ranging from inpatient nursing (critical care and medical-surgical) and the entire scope of peri-anesthesia areas including the preoperative and postoperative care units.
The program is an evidence-based multi-modal curriculum embedded in the American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses (ASPAN) standards. Peer support and continuous feedback will be provided throughout the experience to help you grow your nursing skills while working side-by-side with trained preceptors and then transition to practice nurse educator.
Upon successful completion of the program, a full-time position will be offered.
