As a resident, Dr. Richards was the head team physician for the Bullitt East High School football program which won the 2022 Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) Class 6A state title. He attended the Missouri Orthopaedic Institute at the University of Missouri for sports medicine and arthroscopy fellowship where he assumed the role of assistant team physician for the Mizzou football (Cotton Bowl champions), basketball, soccer and softball programs. Dr. Richards’ training at the Missouri Orthopaedic Institute also brought with it advanced arthroscopic techniques with a focus on joint preservation, cartilage restoration, lower extremity alignment and ligamentous reconstruction. Dr. Richards has published in the fields of knee, hip and shoulder surgery. His current research interests center around complex knee topics such as lower extremity alignment, osteotomy, meniscus transplantation, cartilage transplantation, multiligamentous knee instability and the intersection between robotics and orthopedics. Dr. Richards, his wife (Katherine), two children (Molly and James) and their dog (Ender) live in the 100+ year old home he and his father renovated in the Highlands neighborhood of Louisville.
