Mercia Bezerra Gondim, M.D.

I am originally from Natal, Brazil, and I graduated from the Rio Grande do Norte Federal University. I completed my neurosurgery residency in Brazil and pediatric neurosurgery fellowship in the Necker Enfants Malades Hospital in France. As pediatric neurosurgeon attending in Brazil, I implemented several procedures and helped in treating rare and complicated cases. As a member of a multidisciplinary team, I also founded a local Association for Children with Myelomeningocele and Hydrocephalus. Thanks to this organization, they achieved many improvements in public welfare. In the US, I completed my Anatomic Pathology residency training at Indiana University and pursued fellowship training in multiple specialties. I am a board-certified Anatomic Pathologist, Pediatric Pathologist and Neuropathologist and fellowship trained GI and liver pathologist. In Louisville, I initially joined the Department of Pathology at Norton Children’s Hospital. Now I am faculty of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Louisville.
