In a Single Anastomosis Duodeno-Ileal Bypass with Sleeve Gastrectomy (SADI-S) procedure, a smaller, tube-shaped stomach is created. The duodenum is divided just after the stomach. A loop of intestine is measured several feet from its end and connected to the stomach.
What are the advantages of a SADI-S procedure?
- Highly effective for long-term weight loss
- Effective for remission of type 2 diabetes
- Excellent option for a patient who already had a sleeve gastrectomy and is seeking further weight loss
What are the risks of a SADI-S procedure?
- Vitamins and minerals may not be absorbed well
- Worsened or new-onset reflux
- Looser and more frequent bowels
- SADI-S is a newer procedure with limited long-term outcome data and limited insurance coverage
