Do you have trouble hearing when there is noise in the background? Do most people you talk to seem to mumble? Do you misunderstand what others are saying and respond inappropriately? Do some sounds seem too loud? Have you ever felt dizzy, lightheaded or as if the room were spinning around you?

If you answered yes to any of these, you may have a hearing or balance disorder, and UofL Physicians – Hearing & Balance can help. Serving patients from birth to the Golden Years, UofL Physicians – Hearing & Balance provides top-notch clinical care, education and research related to deafness, hearing loss and balance disorders.

With locations downtown and in the East End of Louisville, UofL Physicians – Hearing & Balance prides itself on being a top-tier clinical audiology program in Louisville. In the past five years, UofL Physicians – Hearing & Balance has seen the most significant growth and achievements in its 25-year history. We have added top-notch audiologists, each with their own specialty area that has added tremendous knowledge and depth to an already established practice. In fact, one of our audiologists is one of just nine Alexander Graham Bell Cochlear Implant Fellows nationwide.

Our highly skilled audiologists all hold special certifications in their area of expertise. UofL Physicians – Hearing & Balance continues to set the community standard in the provision of hearing and balance care services, particularly in the areas of new technologies and pediatric services. UofL Physicians – Hearing & Balance collaborates closely with UofL Physicians – Ear, Nose & Throat on clinical, educational and research endeavors, ensuring the best patient care at all times. This integrated patient-centric team approach gives our patients the benefit of having all the services they need provided in the same office. It encompasses both diagnostic and therapeutic aspects of the management of ear disease in both adults and children. In fact, UofL Physicians – Hearing & Balance is excited to announce it now has the only fully furnished balance suite in the area.

Not only do our audiologists deliver expert care to their patients, but they also educate the next generation of audiologists. As faculty members in the Department of Surgery at thehearing loss University of Louisville, we developed and implemented one of the first Doctor of Audiology (AuD) degree programs in the country, and the program has received national attention.

In addition to providing care to our patients and educating the next generation of audiologists, UofL Physicians – Hearing & Balance engages in groundbreaking research designed to improve the treatment and diagnosis of hearing and balance disorders. This research includes efforts to discover the impact that hearing loss has on the relationship of a parent with hearing loss and his/her adult child or children. From this research, we hope to develop more effective treatment programs for older adults with hearing loss. Another one of our studies attempts to identify key aspects of the hearing health care process seen from the client’s perspective in four different countries. From this research, we have learned reasons why adults with hearing loss seek out (or do not seek out) hearing health care.
