Medical Behavioral Health Unit
The hospital recently completed a $6.6 million renovation to create a new 33-bed medical behavioral health unit. The 16,688 square feet unit offers a wide range of services aimed at treating patients who have psychiatric disorders such as bipolar disorder psychosis, depression and schizophrenia as well as medical disorders. The medical behavioral heath unit cares for adult and geriatric patients. Behavioral health services include:- Acute crisis stabilization

Medical Detox Unit
UofL Health – Mary & Elizabeth Hospital has partnered with our sister facility, UofL Health – Peace Hospital to create a voluntary inpatient medical detox unit at Mary & Elizabeth Hospital to care for patients with substance use disorders. The unit features 12 private patient rooms, but has the capacity to expand to care for 25 patients. In addition to assisting patients through the detox process, the unit also offers:- Inpatient medical detoxification from alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, and various other addictive substances in a safe and monitored environment
- Recovery-based therapy, some of which may incorporate music and art components, is available to patients as is guided meditation.
- Therapy groups led by licensed therapists who work with discharge planning and aftercare services to ensure that patients maintain adherence to their treatment plans to achieve long-term sobriety and increased well-being.

Long-Acting Injection Clinic
Both Mary & Elizabeth Hospital and Peace Hospital offer long-acting injection (LAI) clinics. These retail, pharmacist-operated LAI clinics provide monthly shots of long-acting medications to help patients with substance use and psychotic disorders. Some detox unit patients will be written physician orders to receive LAI injections immediately after discharge before even leaving the Mary & Elizabeth Hospital campus. Emergency Psychiatric Services
Emergency Psychiatric Services is a mental health unit located on the first floor of UofL Health – UofL Hospital. This unit is designed to help adults experiencing psychiatric emergencies. Patients will then meet with the multidisciplinary mental health team, which includes psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners and social workers to determine the best treatment option. The patient may be:- Discharged with an outpatient resource that is appropriate to their needs
- Admitted to Emergency Psychiatric Services 23-hour unit (Holding Bed Unit) for observation
- Admitted to UofL Hospital
- Transferred to another hospital (if transferred to another hospital, your family member will be transported by ambulance)

Trauma Survivors Network UofL Hospital has partnered with the Trauma Survivors Network to further expand support to our trauma patients. Trauma Survivors Network (TraumaSurvivorsNetwork.org) is an online community where trauma survivors and their families share information while providing support to one another. PeaceNow – Telebehavioral Health Clinic
- Patients are referred to PeaceNow by a UofL Health provider or a community provider.
- A patient is scheduled for a telehealth assessment and then referred to the appropriate level of care within the UofL Health system, or to services outside the system if the most appropriate service is not quickly available.
- Licensed therapists can also provide brief therapy services. No long-term therapy offered.
- Providers will include psychiatric APRNs and Psychiatrists. Clinical services include medication management consideration.

Center for Advanced NeuroRehab
The Frazier Rehabilitation Institute Center for Advanced NeuroRehab provides comprehensive neurological rehab services to patients with all types of neurological injuries or illnesses, including brain injury, spinal cord injury, strokes/aneurysms and other neurological disorders. The transdisciplinary approach bridges levels of care that empower patients, the workforce and the community to prevent complications experienced by people living with neurological conditions. This approach addresses all aspects of rehabilitation- physical, social/interpersonal, cognitive, emotional and life-long wellness. Patients receiving these services are eligible to be seen by a psychologist who helps address adjustment to injury or illness. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) Group
University of Louisville Psychological Services Center offers a skills-based group for adults interested in coping more effectively with distressing emotions and relationship problems. People who experience frequent anxiety, anger, shame and/or sadness would benefit from this group. This group is also helpful for people who have frequent interpersonal conflict at home and at work. The group is an addition to individual therapy and you must be in individual therapy to join the group.- We use a sliding scale based on your gross annual household income that ranges from $5–$25 per session.
