UofL Health – UofL Hospital – Center for Women & Infants
The Center for Women & Infants at UofL Health – UofL Hospital offers services to meet your needs for low-risk and high-risk pregnancies. The center is a designated Baby-Friendly birthing facility by Baby-Friendly USA, which is awarded to birthing centers that offer an optimal level of care for infant feeding and mother/baby bonding. The center also houses a Level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) to provide care for babies born too early and those that are too sick to be cared for in couplet care.
Additionally, UofL Hospital is the only one in Kentucky dedicated to treating placenta accreta spectrum, offering comprehensive care for mothers facing this complex condition.
In December 2024, UofL Hospital was ranked “high performing” by U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospital’s for Maternity Care (uncomplicated pregnancy). UofL Hospital is one of three facilities in Kentucky and the only Louisville facility to earn this designation.

UofL Health – Mary & Elizabeth Hospital – The Birthing Place
UofL Health – Mary & Elizabeth Hospital is bringing back labor/delivery services for mothers for the first time since 1974. The new services will allow for care to be administered to mothers by either a certified nurse midwife or an OB/GYN physician. The planned labor/delivery/post-partum suites will be designed in a manner that will invite family participation in the delivery, and all will feature spa-inspired labor tubs.
Highlights of the project include:
- Eight labor and delivery rooms designed to focus on natural childbirth
- Well-baby Level I nursery
- Labor lounge
