Rehabilitation psychologists are providers with the UofL Health – Brain & Spine Institute and offer services at UofL Health – Frazier Rehabilitation Institute. These professionals complete health and behavior assessments to evaluate an individual’s mood, coping, adjustment, lifestyle behaviors, social support and other factors associated with a wide range of medical diagnoses or conditions.
These evaluations are available to our inpatient acute rehab population and are a standard component of many of our programs, including brain injury, stroke, amputation, spinal cord injury and pediatrics. Services are also provided to patients with other presenting concerns, as indicated by physician order.
Health and Behavior Therapy
Health and behavior therapy is individualized to address psychological, cognitive, behavioral, somatic and/or social disturbances associated with the presenting concerns for which patients are admitted to acute care. An important component of therapy is providing education on injury/illness to patients and their families/caregivers, to help them transition to the community with maximal cognitive, emotional and social functioning, as well as independence.
Health and behavior interventions are evidenced-based and may include:
- Acceptance and commitment therapy
- Behavior modification
- Cognitive behavior therapy
- Mindfulness-based therapy
Limited outpatient health and behavior services are available to support Frazier Rehabilitation Institute – Center for Advanced NeuroRehab programs. When mental health needs extend beyond the scope of health and behavior assessment and therapy, our team will provide recommendations for outpatient mental health follow-up in the community.
