Handwashing has been in the spotlight during COVID-19. It’s one of the most important things you can do to avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others.

Dec. 1 – 7 is National Handwashing Awareness Week and there’s never been a better time to learn more about hand-hygiene. UofL Health and Louisville Water are teaming up to raise awareness of the important role handwashing plays in stopping the spread of COVID-19.

UofL Health team members are on the frontline of the pandemic, caring for thousands of COVID-19 patients since March. Infection prevention experts throughout the hospital system work to educate staff and patients on the best ways to stay healthy, including handwashing and wearing masks.

A reliable, safe water supply is crucial to help fight the pandemic. Louisville Water not only provides this resource for the community, but also uses water as a teaching tool, interacting with more than 40,000 students in a typical year.

Together, UofL Health and Louisville Water are reminding people of the importance of handwashing and the public health impact the water system plays.
