UofL Health – Medical Center East is looking for an ER Host. The objective of the Volunteer ER Host is to conduct ER patient comfort rounds. They are responsible for proactive, purposeful communication and evaluation of patient needs to ensure comfort, safety, and satisfaction. The primary goals are to engage with patients in the ER, build rapport and a connection with them, and assist in providing items that may make their time in the ER less stressful, thereby reducing anxiety and improving the overall care experience.
ER Hosts will engage with patients while they are still in the waiting room or treatment areas. The role is crucial for improving patient satisfaction while enhancing patient safety and quality of care.
Expectations
- Rounding on patients and families in the ED waiting area and in patient rooms/areas with emphasis on building caring connections (active listening, compassion, empathy).
- Distributing comfort items as needed (blankets, pillows, word search/crossword puzzles, etc.)
- Rounding on ER environment (lobby, restrooms, and patient rooms) to ensure cleanliness and to eliminate clutter; engaging EVS as needed for follow-up.

UofL Health – Medical Center Northeast is looking for a front desk person to greet patients and visitors at the front entrance and direct them to their destination. This volunteer position will assist with wayfinding and direct individuals who require a wheelchair to the designated location.
