LOUISVILLE, Ky. – UofL Health – Frazier Rehabilitation Institute’s pediatric program has expanded in South Louisville to meet the demand of some of its youngest patients. Operating on the UofL Health – Mary & Elizabeth Hospital campus since 2016, this new space accommodates more kids, more staff and decrease the wait times for physical, occupational and speech therapy for children from infancy through adolescence. The expansion is made possible by a $500,000 grant from Kosair for Kids.

“Injury and illness can have such a unique impact on children, and we are thankful to have a Kosair for Kids as a partner,” said Dan Hudson, Frazier Rehabilitation Institute CEO. “This new center will expand access to the expertise needed to address our young patient’s physical, emotional and developmental needs.”

The expansion more than doubles the space dedicated to pediatric rehab and offers support for many diagnoses, including autism, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, scoliosis, Down syndrome, torticollis, dysphagia and multi-traumas after motor vehicle accidents.

“Over one century ago, Kosair for Kids promised joy, care and hope to the children of our community,” said Barry Dunn, Kosair for Kids president and CEO. “Today’s celebration delivers on that promise by making pediatric therapy available to the children of Southwest Louisville. We are grateful to our partners at Frazier Rehab Institute, and we look forward to generations of Kosair Kids thriving thanks to the excellent care delivered at Mary & Elizabeth Hospital.”

Autistic children also will benefit from a Snoezelen® room, a multi-sensory environment to promote relaxation and reduce anxiety. State-of-the-art technology will support electrical muscle stimulation for young patients diagnosed with cerebral palsy or brain injury.

“This expansion is furthered proof of both Kosair for Kids and UofL Health’s commitment to breaking down barriers and increasing access to care,” said Jason Smith, M.D., UofL Health interim CEO. “We look forward to helping these kids heal so they can get back to playing, learning and living. I extend our gratitude to the Kosair leadership who made it possible.”

In 2024, Frazier Rehab’s outpatient network served more than 400 pediatric patients, with 24% of patients being five years old or younger. More than half of those came to the Mary & Elizabeth Hospital campus for their care.
