The inaugural Building Our Blocks (B.O.B.) event for District 15 is finally here! This week marks the beginning of a series of neighborhood-focused events that benefit the residents of the Lucky Horseshoe neighborhood. The festivities will culminate in a one-day celebration on Saturday, April 6, 2024.

Building Our Blocks (B.O.B.)B.O.B. is a one-day event that improves a neighborhood through a series of volunteer projects and events. The goal of B.O.B. is to bring public services directly into neighborhoods to help solve issues and address community needs.

Schedule of Events for Saturday, April 6, 2024

  • Vaccine Clinic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Churchill Downs, located at 700 Central Avenue. The clinic will offer an array of valuable services, including discounted rabies vaccines, pet licenses, microchipping, and free nametag engraving. This free event is first-come, first-served, so no signups are necessary.
  • Tree planting by Louisville Grows. Interested volunteers should meet at Churchill Downs, located at 700 Central Avenue.
  • Resource Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wellman Wesleyan Church, located at 3220 Bohannon Avenue, featuring vendors like Shifty Business Cycling for bike repair consultations, the Jefferson County Conservation District for an informative rain barrel workshop, Beargrass Thunder providing native seed distribution and more!
  • FREE UofL Health Mobile Health Clinic at the Resource Fair
  • FREE gun locks provided by the Office for Safe & Healthy Neighborhoods (OSHN) at the Resource Fair
  • Kid Zone Area from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Cole Chiropractic parking lot, located at 3317 Taylor Boulevard, with activities including a fire truck display, free children’s book give-a-way provided by I Would Rather Be Reading, chalk, bubbles, and more!
  • FREE Mindfulness Workshop with yoga at 10 a.m. at 3317 Taylor Boulevard. Participants are requested to bring a mat or towel for the workout.
  • FREE Rain Barrel Workshop at 10 a.m. at the Jefferson County Conversation District booth at 3220 Bohannon Avenue
  • FREE safe and secure collection of expired and unused medicine by the sheriff’s office
  • Brightside Neighborhood Cleanup around the Lucky Horseshoe neighborhood begins at 10 a.m. Volunteers should meet at the 3220 Bohannon Avenue parking lot for supplies and instructions.
  • Gallapooza Horse on display at the corner of Taylor Boulevard and Queen Avenue by local artist, Jessica Chao.

All events, including the LMAS vaccine clinic and Resource Fair are open to individuals, regardless of what neighborhood they claim.

The district office is currently seeking volunteers to contribute to the success of this event. Volunteers are needed to assist with yard and minor exterior work through Repair Affair, as well as setting up, staffing the resource fair and kid zone, participating at the cleanup and assisting with event breakdown.
