Overview of Internship Central

Internship Central is a one-stop shop that facilitates the advertising of work-based learning opportunities at UofL Health, student applications for placement, and the matching of applications to opportunities. We offer both paid and unpaid internships, job shadowing, residency programs and clinical externships.  

UofL Health offers select paid and unpaid internships, job shadowing, residency and externship opportunities. If you are interested in one of these work-based learning opportunities, please follow the links provided. If your opportunity of interest is not advertised here, please reach out to us and we will inquire about opportunities on your behalf. 


An internship is a work-based learning opportunity allowing students to explore careers and develop their skillset in the workplace. Internships allow for a direct pipeline of the employer for employees in the future.

Nurse externships are work-based learning opportunities that facilitates you working side by side with professionals in your field of study. The Nurse Externship for nurses at UofL Health creates opportunities for senior nursing students to work very closely with registered nurses in a hospital setting. During a Nurse Externship, you can expect to participate in direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse.

Job shadowing is a work-based learning opportunity for students to get a behind-the-scenes look into responsibilities of the professional they are learning from. You will gain valuable insight about professions that interest you and other jobs of those who interact with the person you are job shadowing.

Residency programs are work-based learning opportunities that are specific to health care-post-graduate students who will gain advanced training in their field of study.
