The PGY2 Emergency Medicine Pharmacy Residency program at UofL Health provides a comprehensive training opportunity to further develop skills related to the practice of emergency medicine pharmacy. Residents build upon concepts and skills obtained in PGY1 residency training as they transition from general pharmacy practice to a unique specialized practice in the emergency department setting. The residency program is designed to facilitate resident practitioner development related to advancing clinical knowledge and skills, research, teaching and interdisciplinary care delivery. Upon completion of the residency experience, residents are prepared for independent practice, active engagement with health care teams, clinical service line development and the provision of impactful patient care.
UofL Hospital’s Emergency Department serves on average 65,000 patient visits per year and remains the only Level 1 trauma center in the region. UofL Hospital maintains comprehensive stroke center certification and has been awarded AHA/ASA Gold Plus awards for the past 14 years. The emergency medicine pharmacy service line works in close collaboration with the University of Louisville Department of Emergency Medicine and the EM residency training program that includes attending physicians, nurse practitioners and 40 EM resident physicians. The PGY2 pharmacy residency exposes residents to a broad range of patient populations and disease states ranging in acuity from ambulatory to critically ill. Additionally, residents will be engaged throughout the year in teaching and precepting, research, quality improvement and clinical initiative projects as well as disaster management and emergency preparedness training.
The PGY2 Emergency Medicine Pharmacy Residency is a 12-month program that includes eight core rotations (9 months), four longitudinal learning experiences and three months of elective rotation opportunities.

Application Requirements
Letter of intent, curriculum vitae, 3 letters of recommendation, an official transcript from ACPE Accredited College of Pharmacy, graduation from an ASHP Accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency (or candidate status, pending accreditation) and pharmacist licensure/eligibility for licensure in the state of Kentucky.
