Mercia Bezerra Gondim, M.D.

Mercia Bezerra Gondim, M.D., is originally from Natal, Brazil, and she graduated from the Rio Grande do Norte Federal University. She completed her neurosurgery residency in Brazil and pediatric neurosurgery fellowship in the Necker Enfants Malades Hospital in France. As a pediatric neurosurgeon attending in Brazil, she implemented several procedures and helped in treating rare and complicated cases. As a member of a multidisciplinary team, she also founded a local association for children with Myelomeningocele and Hydrocephalus. Thanks to this organization, they achieved many improvements in public welfare. In the U.S., she completed her anatomic pathology residency training at Indiana University and pursued fellowship training in multiple specialties. She is a board-certified anatomic pathologist, pediatric pathologist and neuropathologist and fellowship trained gastrointestinal and liver pathologist. In Louisville, she initially joined the Department of Pathology at Norton Children’s Hospital. She is now faculty of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Louisville.
