Elizabeth Veneracion was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2017. Two months later, she had her first chemotherapy treatment at UofL Health – Brown Cancer Center.
“I did chemo, then I had surgery and then I had radiation,” she said.
Veneracion is doing well now and recently had her first telehealth appointment.
“It was really great,” she said. “It was like I was in front of Dr. Riley. It’s just like being person to person.”
A UofL Health – Telehealth appointment allows patients to see their providers over their phone, tablet or computer using an application called BlueJeans.
“They sent me an email to download the app a week before my appointment. It was easy,” she said.
Larkin Hayden is another UofL Health patient who just used telehealth for the first time.
“Dr. Metzinger was sitting at his desk and we chatted,” she said. “I could see him and hear him really well.”
Both patients live more than an hour away from Louisville, so telehealth appointments are timesavers for them. The appointments have also made things less stressful during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“You don’t have to go out of your house, and you don’t have to worry about being around large crowds of people,” Veneracion said.
Both women are glad UofL Health – Telehealth is available, and they encourage other patients to schedule an appointment.
“My suggestion is to relax. It’s just like a person-to-person appointment,” Veneracion said. “The doctor has all of your information and goes over all of the questions she would normally ask you.”
