The Department of Pharmacy at UofL Health offers a Post-Graduate Year Two (PGY2) Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency. This comprehensive training program incorporates direct patient care, teaching and research experiences with a focus on the provision of pharmaceutical care as an integral member of the interdisciplinary health care team.

UofL Health provides care to a variety of patient populations in both acute care and ambulatory settings. The PGY2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency offers a diverse range of inter-professional outpatient clinics serving a variety of patient populations. Our collaboration with Sullivan University College of Pharmacy allows for vast small and large group teaching opportunities.

Purpose Statement

The PGY2 Ambulatory Care residency is a 12-month training program consisting of primarily longitudinal rotations to foster stronger patient-pharmacist relationships, maximize learning experiences, and provide exceptional follow-up patient care. The learning experiences below are all longitudinal unless otherwise noted.

Core Experiences

  • Orientation (every day for 1 month)
  • Cystic Fibrosis Clinic I (1/2 day for 5 months)
  • Adult Internal Medicine Clinic (1 full day for 3 months)
  • Anticoagulation Clinic (1/2 day for 5 months)
  • Cardiology - Advanced Heart Failure Clinic I (1 full day for 3 months)
  • Medication Management Clinic (1/2 day for 11 months)
  • Gastroenterology Clinic (1 full day for 3 months)
  • Hepatitis C Clinic I (1/2 day for 3 months)
  • HIV Clinic I (1 full day for 2 months)
  • Multiple Sclerosis Clinic I (1 full day for 3 months)
  • New Ambulatory Service (½ day for 11 months
  • Outpatient Oncology Clinic (1 full day for 2 months)
  • Professional Development and Service (12 months/~3 hours/week)
  • Research Project - Flipped Model (12 months/~3 hours/week)
  • Specialty Pharmacy (1 full day for 3 months)
  • Specialty Pharmacy On Call (every day for 2 months)
  • Staffing + Clinical Outpatient Services (1/2 day for 5 months)
  • Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (Required if the resident did not previously complete with PGY1 program) (12 months/~3 hours/week)

  • Administration - Specialty Pharmacy (3 months)
  • Ambulatory Care Administration (3 months)
  • Academia (3 months)
  • Cystic Fibrosis Clinic II (3 months)
  • Cardiology - Advanced Heart Failure Clinic II (3 months)
  • Emergency Medicine (1 full day for 3 months)
  • Hepatitis C Clinic II (3 months)
  • HIV Clinic II (3 months)
  • Hypercoagulopathy and Antithrombotics Clinic (3 months)
  • Medical Writing (3 months)
  • Multiple Sclerosis Clinic II (3 months)
  • Specialty Pharmacy II (3 months)
  • Staffing and Clinical Outpatient Services II (3 months)

Starting Date: Early July

Application Requirements

Application completed on PhORCAS - Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service. Application is required to include:

  • Letter of intent
  • Curriculum vitae
  • 3 references with letters of recommendation
  • Official transcript from ACPE Accredited College of Pharmacy
  • Graduation from an ASHP Accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency (or candidate status, pending accreditation)
  • Pharmacist licensure/eligibility for licensure in the state of Kentucky
