LOUISVILLE, Ky. – In an effort to enhance and expand services at UofL Health – Frazier Rehabilitation Institute, the hospital has created a new Center for Advanced NeuroRehab to further rehab care for patients after a traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury and patients who suffered a stroke. The new Center aligns the clinical expertise of internationally accredited inpatient and outpatient programs with innovative technology, all under one roof at the downtown hospital.

In 2023, Frazier Rehab served more than 1,200 patients with a brain injury, spinal cord injury or stroke. The innovative, recovery-based rehab the Center for Advanced NeuroRehab will integrate the comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services to help patients become as independent as possible.

This is the only program in Kentucky that has a comprehensive transdisciplinary team that serves brain injury, spinal cord injury and stroke populations in the outpatient setting and is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Rehab Facilities (CARF).

“Frazier Rehab is working diligently to become the best rehab hospital continuum in the U.S,” said Dan Hudson, hospital CEO. “This new Center for Advanced NeuroRehab will help guide us there – aligning our clinical expertise with innovative technology and allowing us to treat more patients with a wider variety of diagnoses from all socioeconomic backgrounds while achieving exceptional outcomes. Our goal is to help individuals get back to their fullest potentials, back in the community.”

Patients will receive structured, customized therapy services which may include physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, psychology, spiritual care, case management and wellness programming.

“The Center for Advanced NeuroRehab continues to fulfill the dream that Amelia Brown Frazier had 70 years ago to create a place where people in this part of the country with illness and injury could come to restore their daily function through cutting edge rehabilitation,” said Darryl Kaelin, M.D., Medical Director, Frazier Rehabilitation Institute. “The UofL Health – Frazier Rehabilitation Institute is proud of the world class expertise that we bring to helping people with neurologic injury regain their lives with hope and dignity.”

The Center for Advanced NeuroRehab has an integrated Assistive Technology Resource Center that provides services to patients who have specialty needs to wheelchair seating and mobility. Frazier Rehabilitation Institute has a fully accessible gym fitted to serve those with disabling conditions. Nurse navigators and program coordinators are also available to offer education and address additional needs.
