Tom Miller, CEO of UofL Health Named One of Louisville Business First’s 2021 Most Admired CEOs

The Most Admired CEOs program honors outstanding chief executives whose qualities encompass being an innovative, standard-bearer, role model and exceptional leader. During a time of uncertainty about the future of many health care facility closures, Tom Miller assumed leadership of UofL Health. UofL Health now leads the region as Kentucky’s largest academic health care system.

Since the acquisition of UofL Health – Jewish Hospital, UofL Health – Frazier Rehabilitation Institute, UofL Health – Peace Hospital, UofL Health – Mary & Elizabeth Hospital, UofL Health – Shelbyville Hospital, four ambulatory centers and hundreds of provider offices UofL health has been able to better provide patient care and resources in many areas. Under Tom’s leadership to date, UofL Health has since opened five new urgent care centers including in Federally Medically Underserved Areas, continuously recruited national leadership to reinvigorate the Jewish Hospital transplant program, opened ICU beds at Shelbyville Hospital, increased heart care services at Mary & Elizabeth hospital to include 24/7 STEMI coverage.

UofL Health became an industry leader in the strategies and innovations to combat COVID-19. With Tom’s vision, UofL Health positioned the city, state and region to better respond to the pandemic including several firsts for the state such as:

  • First drive thru COVID testing site in Kentucky.  This site offered 7 days a week testing free for our community and expanded the site to four additional locations. The site pioneered processes and advancements that other hospital systems across the state put into use.
  • First vaccines for COVID-19 in Kentucky were administered at UofL Health.
  • The largest drive-through COVID vaccine site in the state at Cardinal Stadium with more than 20 lanes offering access to free vaccines to thousands of Kentuckians.
  • Lead critical partnerships with more than 50 area church congregations and community organizations to host on-site pop-up vaccine clinics and further reduce barriers to access

From the first day that Mr. Miller joined our organization, he has fully embraced UofL, UofL Health, the Louisville Community, and the State of Kentucky. His enthusiasm and personal commitment to equality, fairness, compassion, and kindness are evident in his interaction with our over 12,000 team members and providers. Tom is truly an inspiration and an example of a passionate leader with the vision to bring state-of-the-art health care to every individual in our community.
