Minimally Invasive Surgery

For more than 100 years of constant striving to give you more, UofL Health invites you to expect less - less pain, less hospital time, less recovery time and less inconvenience.

We perform a wide variety of minimally invasive and laparoscopic procedures, including orthopedic, cardiothoracic, lung, prostate, kidney and joint replacement surgery, where surgeons use the most advanced technology to perform these procedures through minimal sized incisions.

In addition, Jewish Hospital is home to the Mako SmartRobotics™ for total hip replacement and the MONARCH® Platform, a robot-assisted bronchoscope used in detecting lung nodules and lung cancer in the earliest stages of development.

These minimally invasive procedures provide surgeons with an alternative to traditional open surgery, enabling them to perform even the most complex and delicate procedures through very small incisions with unmatched precision.

The benefits of minimally invasive surgery include:

  • Significantly less pain
  • Less blood loss
  • Smaller incisions and less scarring
  • Decreased risk of wound infections
  • Shorter recovery time, meaning less time in the hospital
  • A faster return to normal daily activities
  • In many cases, better clinical outcomes

Laparoscopic procedures are available at most UofL Health locations where surgical procedures are performed, including Jewish Hospital, Mary & Elizabeth Hospital, and the Shelbyville Hospital. The da Vinci® Robotic program is available at Jewish Hospital, providing you and your physician the highest level of quality and convenience.

Ask your doctor if minimally invasive surgery is right for you.
