Chad Mathis, M.D., MBA
Chad Mathis, MD, MBA, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who attended medical school and completed his residency at the IU School of Medicine and Medical Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. He also completed a Shoulder Reconstruction and Sports Medicine fellowship at the Lipscomb Clinic in Nashville, Tennessee. While practicing in Birmingham, Alabama, Dr. Mathis was a founding member and CEO of a six-member orthopedic practice and a commercial real estate company. During that time, he also received his health care MBA at the Kelley School of Business in Indianapolis, Indiana. In addition to practicing medicine for many years in Birmingham, Alabama, Dr. Mathis sat as the Chairman of the Alabama Federation for Children and a member of the Board of Directors of the Business Council of Alabama and the Alabama Policy Institute. Dr. Mathis served as president-elect of the Alabama Orthopaedic Society. Dr. Mathis eventually left clinical practice of medicine and joined Smith and Nephew Inc. (LSE: SN, NYSE: SNN). He became the Global Senior Medical Director for Sports Medicine, where he ran their global clinical trials and patient safety for the franchise. Dr. Mathis subsequently went on to be Chief Medical Officer at Allscripts (NASDAQ: MDRX). He created a clinical office to bring value-based clinical evidence to their hospital-based electronic medical record. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Mathis joined the Secretary’s Immediate Office at the United States Health and Human Services and served as a Senior Advisor to the Deputy Secretary. Dr. Mathis worked on multiple projects during the public health emergency, including nursing home COVID-19 prevention and regulatory reform for quality and payment models. Dr. Mathis enjoys traveling and fly-fishing in his free time.
