Why Choose a Nursing Career at UofL Health?
If you want to be a part of bringing better health and well-being to Louisville and the surrounding communities, you're in the right place.
Nurse Extern Program
At UofL Health our nursing students have the opportunity to work in a variety of clinical specialties with the diverse patient population we serve. The three-level nurse externship will provide the opportunity to work side-by-side with professional nursing staff providing hands-on patient care and help externs develop clinical reasoning skills necessary for quality patient care delivery.
Transition to Practice
A nurse residency program that fosters the transition from nursing student to competent practicing nurse during the initial year of clinical practice. Research demonstrates that new graduate nurses who have completed nurse residency have a more successful adjustment to the practice environment.
Professional Development Program
The UofL Health Nursing Professional Development Program (NPDP) will provide recognition and reward for nurses in clinical practice who demonstrate clinical excellence. The program will provide an avenue to help nurses advance in achieving their professional goals, emphasizing clinical practice, quality, patient safety, shared decision making, evidence-based practice and nursing research.
Certification Reimbursement
UofL Health is committed to professional growth and supports employees to obtain and maintain a certification or industry certificate. All team members eligible to become certified in their discipline or area of specialty now qualify for reimbursement up to a combined total of $1,250 annually.
Nursing Congress
When nursing practice issues arise, or collaborative processes, nursing staff can submit these issues and ideas to Nursing Congress. Nursing Congress will work with you and all members of the health care team
affected to find evidence-based and best-practice solutions.
