Two UofL Health Facilities among Kentucky’s Best Places to Work

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – UofL Health – Shelbyville Hospital and UofL Health – Medical Center East earned a spot in the 20th Annual Best Places to Work in Kentucky list, which identifies and recognizes outstanding workplace environments.

The 2024 Best Places to Work in Kentucky list was announced by The Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, The Kentucky Society for Human Resource Management and ClearPath Mutual Insurance. The selection process, managed by Workforce Research Group, is based on an assessment of the company’s employee policies and procedures and the results of an internal employee survey.

“All of our hospitals and offices are great places to work. However, I want to applaud Shelbyville Hospital and Medical Center East for going the extra mile to become a Kentucky Chamber Best Places to Work,” said Tom Miller, UofL Health CEO. “To our patients, our communities and potential employees, this designation certifies that these facilities are offering excellent care and have an outstanding culture that truly makes them the best place to work and seek health care.”

Shelbyville Hospital was recognized in the Medium Company category, with 150-499 employees, and was one of only 31 companies selected as winners in this category. This is Shelbyville Hospital’s fifth year to receive the designation (2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024), and as such they are being inducted into the Best Places to Work Hall of Fame—a recognition that, as of last year, only 44 other organizations have achieved.

“I am extremely excited and proud that we have won our fifth Best Places to Work in Kentucky Award,” said Aaron Garofola, Shelbyville Hospital CEO. “This award and our Hall of Fame induction is a testament to how hard our leaders have worked to create an outstanding workplace environment. Our great culture translates into excellent care and experience for our patients. I want to thank our entire team for their dedication every day to making Shelbyville Hospital truly one of the best places to work—and for our community to receive health care.”

UofL Health – Medical Center East was the second facility recognized in the Medium Company category, having served the community of over 12,000 patients per year. Medical Center East also received the Best Places to Work designation 2017 and 2023.

“Being named among Kentucky’s Best Places to Work is an honor and shows the dedication of the team at Medical Center East,” said Angelica Thompson, BSN, RN, Vice President of Operations for Ambulatory Services, UofL Health. “It recognizes the culture of excellence that is not only created but sustained by our Medical Center East team members who provide care to the patients in our community. Our employees choose and want to come to work every day because of the culture, our UofL Health benefits, an outstanding leadership team and the resources we are committed to provide every team member.”

The Best Places to Work in Kentucky competition is a multi-year initiative designed to motivate companies in the commonwealth to focus, measure and move their workplace environments toward excellence. Studies show a strong correlation between success and creating a good place to work.

The winner rankings will be announced at an awards dinner on Thursday, June 13, 2024.
