Back pain can often be debilitating and is one of the most common reasons people seek medical care or miss work. Back or spine surgery is often a solution, but when previous surgeries have not provided needed relief, patients may lose complete hope of living pain-free again.

Our experts at the UofL Health – Brain & Spine Institute specialize in providing unique options for individuals who have tried it all and are looking for hope. From traditional orthopedics to neurosurgical procedures, the Brain & Spine Institute offers a number of first in Kentucky procedures that are making a difference for patients. Our providers are also teachers and researchers at the University of Louisville School of Medicine and are on the cutting edge of the latest in spine care.

Utilizing a multidisciplinary approach, our providers at the Brain & Spine Institute collaborate on the most effective plan of care for each patient’s spine condition and injury. A meeting or “conference” with the specialists involved in your care takes place to discuss aspects of treatment and follow up from the perspective of each medical discipline. We believe this individualized approach takes personalized care to the highest level – and provides the best possible outcomes.

Learn more about this “first in Kentucky” procedure:

Elliquence is a minimally invasive outpatient procedure for disc herniation in the neck or back. The Brain & Spine Institute, in partnership with UofL Health – Medical Center East, are the “first in Kentucky” to offer this revolutionary new procedure that is bringing relief to patients who have experienced longstanding back pain.

Approximately 80 percent of individuals will experience some sort of disc herniation in their life. These patients are generally treated with rest, medications, injections and physical therapy – often without relief. Those who did progress to major spine surgery were still recovering months later.

Now, the Elliquence procedure is providing an option for individuals who have not found relief or healing from conventional approaches. Performed on an outpatient basis, this minimally invasive procedure can bring immediate relief – with patients reporting no need for medications hours after the procedure!
