Sarcomas are a rare cancer, with about 17,000 people diagnosed each year. These cancers start in cells that make up bone or soft tissue which can include fat, muscles, nerves, tendons, blood and lymph vessels. There are more than 50 types of soft tissue sarcoma and these can occur anywhere in the body.
The good news is that with early, accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment by a multidisciplinary team, many patients live long and productive lives.
Brown Cancer Center provides the highest level of clinical cancer care in the region and access to the latest cancer research. Our physicians are all professors at the University of Louisville School of Medicine with unique clinical expertise, which provides our patients with the benefit of a team-focused, multidisciplinary approach.
